Spivey Hall has announced the addition of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to its impressive line-up of artists for the 2017-2018 season. The only orchestra performance in the Season 27 Spivey Series is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018, and is the first time the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has performed at Spivey Hall in more than 25 years.

“We are truly delighted to welcome the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra back to Spivey Hall,” said Sam Dixon, Spivey Hall’s executive and artistic director. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for music-lovers to enjoy great classics performed by this Grammy Award-winning ensemble, and to see and hear the excellent ASO musicians ‘up close and personal.’”

The evening’s program opens with the lively overture from Gioacchino Rossini’s comic opera The ItalianGirl in Algiers conducted by ASO Assistant Conductor Stephen Mulligan, and concludes with Felix Mendelssohn’s brilliant Symphony No. 4, inspired by the composer’s travels in Italy.

The Italian theme continues with one of classical music’s most popular works, The Four Seasons by Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi, showcasing ASO Associate Concertmaster Justin Bruns as violin soloist. The piece is a world-wide favorite, heard frequently in film scores and television soundtracks. The opening of the “Spring” movements is perhaps one of classical music’s most widely-recognized classical music tunes.

Tickets for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concert are priced at $40 (with discounts for subscribers, groups, students and Georgia educators), and are available for purchase now.

The performance is made possible through the generosity of Spivey Hall Friends Concert Sponsor The Charles Loridans Foundation, Inc. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performance is also supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly and the National Endowment of the Arts.

With free parking and close proximity to Atlanta, Spivey Hall’s 392-seat auditorium is the perfect option for an intimate music experience. For full program details for all performances, tickets or more information, call the Spivey Hall Box Office at (678) 466-4200, or visit spiveyhall.org. In addition to the standard ticket pricing indicated for each performance, there is a 50 percent discount available to students and Georgia educators with ID. Discounted tickets are available only through the box office, which is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
