Love of Learning

Being both a teacher and a mom, I found myself combining learning opportunities into household commands. Brush your teeth. Take a Bath. Do your homework. Read a book. Though my children love reading, after a while, I began to get grunts from them because of the authoritative way in which they were asked to read. One day while researching online, I stumbled on an article entitled, “10 Ways to Inspire a Love of Learning” by Carri Schneider. Rockdale Ruffin Reading Bowl Champions

Rockdale’s sharpest readers went head to head in the Rockdale County Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl on January 27, 2018 at Rockdale Career Academy in Conyers, Ga. Lorraine Elementary won first place among 11 elementary school teams. Barksdale Elementary won second place and Shoal Creek Elementary won third place.

RCPS STEM Strength at Rockdale Regional Science and Engineering Fair

Rockdale’s brightest young scientific minds and the research they conducted in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields were in the spotlight at the 2018 Rockdale Regional Science and Engineering Fair (RRSEF) Jan. 26 at Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology. Out of 186 participants, 49 Grand Champions (32 high school students and 17 middle school students) will advance to the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair in March. More were chosen to advance to national and international competitions. This year’s RRSEF saw 177 projects submitted in 23 scientific categories evaluated by more than 70 STEM professionals. The Rockdale Coalition for Children and Families is soliciting applications for the annual John K. Morgan Community Service Scholarship and the F. William Hughey Community Service Award. The John K. Even though I have not personally met these folks yet, Refuge Pregnancy Center supports a cause that is near and dear to my heart. Help them out by supporting and participating in this 5K race! There will be fun things to do for the whole family!

The 7th annual Race for Life 5k/Fun Run is located in the countryside of beautiful Conyers located in Rockdale County, Georgia.
You will enjoy lush green meadows, farm animals, and beautiful landscapes while competing for top speeds. It all starts and ends at historic Rockdale Baptist Church. There is a couple of rolling hills along the route with one large uphill slope before the final turn back to the church. Once you have crossed the finish line, the post-race festivities begin! We want to celebrate your accomplishment! Awards will be given to the top 3 in Overall Male/Female and Masters Male/Female.
