Local Family Thanks Newton County Firefighters

Newton County, GA – Five-year-old Forester Sanders was excited to see the firefighters walking on his property. Along with police officers, firefighters were his heroes with their big red trucks and prestigious uniforms. Never mind that the members of the Newton County Fire Services were there because a fire destroyed part of his home, Sanders still thought the sight of them was “awesome.” On the morning of Jan. 5, five units from the Newton County Fire Services, along with mutual aid from the city of Covington responded to a fire at the Sanders’ home on Starsville Road. Crews on scene worked quickly to extinguish the fire but it wasn’t just the rush of water that caught Trey Sanders’ attention that day.

Mayor Evans Steps in to Follow in the Footsteps of Long Time Friend, Mayor Mills

As the rest of the world prepares to celebrate the coming of the new year, the city of Conyers will celebrate one man who has served the city of Conyers for 28 years. Starting in January, Mayor Randy Mills, a 41-year resident of the city of Conyers, will step out of office and Mayor Vince Evans will step in and take the reins. Mayor Mills served on the city council for 8 years and then stepped in as mayor and served for 20 years. As incoming Mayor Vince Evans said, “He brought the class and dignity into that position as Mayor, as well as the dedication of 20 years…” Mayor Randy Mills has certainly changed the city of Conyers for the better as a result of his hard work. However, Mayor Mills refuses to take the credit for all he has accomplished. He states, “… it is not what I have accomplished, it is what WE have accomplished for the last twenty years.”

The Blue Bus is Coming to Rockdale County

The Blue Bus is here! The Blue Bus began as a dream of Alexander Fitzhugh when he noticed there were counties in which the MARTA system did not reach. He began in Clayton County in 2013 but soon after, MARTA came to Clayton County and there was no need for The Blue Bus anymore. He moved on to find another county with a need for public transportation and he found Rockdale County.
